Doubts

December 27, 2014

To anyone who doubts the parenting ability of LGBTQ parents,

I would just like to take a moment to share with you some personal evidence that serves to prove that being the daughter of a lesbian couple has gone pretty well for me so far. I was the valedictorian of my high school, the vice president of my student government, and involved in many other activities. I am now attending one of the most prestigious liberal arts colleges in the US. But more importantly than my intellect, I am a truly compassionate, respectful, and honest young woman. This is not to brag. My aim is to share one of many examples of children with LGBTQ parents (lesbian mothers in my case) who have been successful. My hope is to prove what seems natural to me: being a good parent means a lot of things, but gender identity and sexual orientation are not indications of a person or a couple’s ability to parent. . Heterosexual couples can be both good or bad parents.Homosexual couples can be both good or bad parents. Single parents can be both good or bad parents. Bottom line: the only thing that someone's sexuality tells about a person is their sexuality.
